Art Scale Figure(s)

There's a series of bust statues called "Art Scale Figure". The heads can be removed from the base. When I was attending I-Doll last year, I saw an Re:Zero Emilia head on a Dollfie Dream body. I decided to create my own Art Scale Figure head + DD body combos, except I had a specific rule for myself: The characters needed to have short hair because hard, rigid plastic hair on a large scale doll is hard to handle.

In Ram's case, I gave her a Smart Doll body. I bought the headless body back when it was possible to buy them directly from Culture Japan.

The neck pin hole in the head is much larger than the neck shaft for the Smart Doll and DD. I used many layers of shrink tube wraps to get the thickness to match the hole. If I ever want to give Ram a different bust size, I would need to destroy the shrink tube.

While I know Ram is canonically not well endowed, this is my hobby so I can give her whatever body type I want. :)

I subsequently acquired Rem as well.

Now that I've had some time to look at them, I've reached a conclusion: This experiment is a failure.

The doll body, whether it's a DD or SmD, has too long of a neck for these heads. The head itself was designed to be compatible with the upper body no arms bust. While I saw these being used on doll bodies at a doll convention, now that I've had some time to take a long hard look at them, the results are not pretty. The bottom of the head meeting the neck is too shallow for the doll body's neck so the neck will come out looking too long every single time. I don't want to carve into the vinyl of the neck to adjust the length as that will cause more problems than solve. Using many layers of shrink tube to make the heads compatible with the doll bodies' neck pin was the least of my problems.

I probably should have "taken a hint" with the Art Scale head I purchased before Ram and Rem.

I can try and hide the "neck too long" issue with an outfit or accessories but it's juts too much.

While I consider this experiment to be a failure, it was still fun to attempt without paying a steep price for them on the secondhand market.

The Art Scale heads will go back to their original busts and I'll use the "floating doll bodies" with other heads.
