Faceup Guide From Someone With Unsteady Hands

I don't take faceup commissions. I'm also not under the delusion people are willing to pay me hundreds of dollars to paint their dolls' faces. I don't claim to be an expert. My hands shake quite a bit so it's difficult for me to draw a straight or even a consistent curved line. Let's just say my hands shake enough so no reputable medical school would consider me as a potential future brain surgeon.

However, I think I've done enough of these faceups to at least be able to give competent advice to people who have less experience than I do.

Let's start with a blank DDH-07.

When your skills improve, it gets ugly. | 腕が上達すると醜い物がある

When you look back at the projects you've done in the past, you can tell how much you sucked. You know it, and it's painful.

Aika's first faceup was actually very recent. I did that over.

過去の作品を振り返って見るとどのくらいヘタクソだったかがよーく分かる。
痛いほど分かる。

 藍華の最初のドールメイクは最近やったんだけどね。
やり直した。

Volks Magical Snow Dress Set | まじかるスノードレスセット

At the end of December, a friend sent me an e-mail saying, "I'm in Japan right now. I'm going to Akihabara so do you want anything?"

I asked him to buy the "Magical Snow" outfit.

12月末に友達から「今、日本にいる。秋葉原に行くから何かほしいものはないか?」との一通のメールが届いた。
マジカルスノー」の衣装を購入してくれ、と頼んだ。

Faceup Redux

On a different blog, I tried a faceup. I didn't like the sticky residue the matte spray I originally used left behind. I decided to clean things up a bit and while I was at it, I would try to reduce the black around the eye holes.

DD Stand (Volks)

Let's say you couldn't find a metal doll stand online or at the last Dolpa in North America. Let's say you settled for the plastic DD Stand to tide you over until you could find a metal one. If you did that, you would have quickly discovered the DD Stand is extremely poor in quality and will not support your Dollfie Dream (or another comparably sized doll) to stand upright. If you're such a person, DON'T THROW THAT STAND AWAY. I'm here to help.
